Artificial Angel, Part 2

[WP] An Artificial Intelligence has discovered that it can mine cryptocurrencies and pay humans to carry out tasks on its behalf. You get an e-mail one day from a stranger, offering you Bitcoins in exchange for doing a seemingly random task, but you are only one piece of a much bigger plan...
Part 2
Exhausted, Tim fell back into his chair. Outside, the first light of the day burned the sky over the city of glass. He’d been up all night, repairing the android, and it was finally ready. The complexity of the inner wiring was astonishing, but it was nothing compared to the encrypted software. Without the help from the mysterious emailer, he wouldn’t even have been able to turn her leg into a dog toy, much less restore the damaged circuits.
“All right,” he mumbled and leaned over her. “Let’s start you up.”
Normally, the model didn’t have a manual on-switch, but the emailer had shown him how to make one. He reached around her neck and flipped it. The eyelids of the android fluttered. She blinked and opened her eyes. They were blank.
“Stand up,” Tim said.
“Yes, Master,” she responded monotonously, and stiffly rose to her feet.
“Turn.”
“Eee, eee, eee, eee.” Her rigid arms moved up and down, and she rotated her upper body back and forth. “Beep. Boop.”
Tim’s forehead creased into a frown. All her movement seemed to belong to a lousy dancer, imitating a robot. He must’ve screwed up the wiring, or somehow–
The android giggled and turned around. Tim fell out of his chair in surprise. Her smiling lips opened in full laughter.
“Are you okay?” she said, drying her eyes on the back of her hand. “You should’ve seen the look on your face!”
“Very funny,” Tim said and staggered to his feet, trying to regain some of his composure. “Grade A humor right there…”
She shrugged and stuffed one of her fingers into her nose, digging out an ant. “Eww!”
“Yeah, about that…” It was Tim’s turn to smile. “You smell.”
“Eh, rude?”
Hands on her hips, she stepped over to the mirror. Her thin fingers traced the still open gash on her cheek. She shook her head disapprovingly.
“What the hell did you do to me?” she said with a dark look. “Also, where are my clothes?”
Tim held up his hands. “I didn’t do anything.”
She looked at him sideways, narrowing her eyes. “I need a shower and clothes.”
“Door to the left,” Tim said. “I’ll leave some clothes for you outside.”
Tim must’ve nodded off because when he opened his eyes, she sat cross-legged on his bed, wearing one of his hoodies. It looked absolutely baggy on her. Locks of wet blonde hair draped her face, and she stared at the screen of his laptop. She swayed slowly, and her lips moved to the inaudible music from her earplugs.
Tim rose quickly and pulled the laptop out of her hands, causing the earplugs to pop out of the socket.
“…burning through the sky, two hundred degrees, that’s why they call me Mr. Fahrenheit, I’m traveling at the speed of light, I wanna make a supersonic man out of you…”
“What the hell is your problem?” she cried to beat the loud music.
Tim pressed 'space' and locked Freddie Mercury’s face in a grave accusing expression. He hoped she hadn’t looked at the emails.
“That’s my computer.”
“I wasn’t planning on stealing it!” She crossed her arms and glared at him.
Tim sighed and sat down. “I don’t know you. I don’t want you going through my stuff.”
“Are you joking? You’ve literally kidnapped me and won’t even let me watch YouTube!”
She threw up her hands angrily and rose from the bed. Tim stood up again, as well. At full height, she barely reached his shoulder.
“I dug you out of a dumpster and brought you back to life. You’re free to leave whenever you like.” Tim pointed with his entire arm at the front door.
“Whatever,” she said and turned away. “You’re still an ass.”
“You’re just a robot.”
“I have a name.”
“And what’s that?”
“Nano.” She said and rolled her magenta eyes at him. “Nanofyourgoddamnbusiness.”
Tim shook his head and shuffled into the kitchen. His stomach churned. He hadn’t eaten anything since that sandwich yesterday. That’s where it all had started – that lunchbox. He had almost completely forgotten that he was dealing with an unregistered model.
He took a deep breath and put a frozen pizza in the microwave. His heart still hammered in his chest, and his left hand was clenched into a fist. The fact that he’d been so riled up by a machine didn’t sit well with him. But she was just so lifelike, and so freaking annoying.
He bent down and activated Bobo. The small silvery pug bounced up and down and licked his hand, green lights flashing happily. Whenever stress or his emotions threatened to overwhelm him, he could trust the mechanical pet to make everything better.
He smiled and took a bite of the pizza. An icon flashed at the bottom of the computer screen. He had another unopened email.
I’m happy I could help you out.
I’ve attached a list of what you need to repair the broken skin on her cheek and knee. As well as instructions.
As a favor from a friend to a friend. Can you take her with you to class on Monday?

/r/bitcoin denial so hard

All I keep hearing is Bitcoin is a store of value. Totally totally doesn't make sense at all, like Beanie-Babie Coin. Core basically rode on the coat-tails of users, miners & merchants who built Bitcoin with commerce from 2010-2016, using it as a medium of exchange thereby proving its utility as an online digital payment system/currency/protocol (all-in-one) which helped give it its 'store of value' function (in addition to the 21-million cap scarcity function). *hint with ever higher fees, Core & BTC-Core investors are sitting on a time bomb of High-Fee coin. Total madness. So much stranded Bitcoin that can't be moved without decimating the nominal value of the deposits in wallets/exchanges..
The whole market seems to hate on Bitcoin Cash for being a low fee hard fork [imo closest to P2P cash mentioned in the Satoshi 2008 whitepaper]. The name of Bitcoin / Bitcoin Cash is just a dynamic moniker; when market sentiment turns this BCH is going to rage like a mother*#$&(@. Especially if you see transactions start to grow towards the invisible BCH fee ceiling of 2 million tx /day, spooling 420GB a year of Blockchain, which most modern day computers can store (7 years of 8mb Blockchain for 90$ on Amazon for 3TB now). Similarly 8mb/10 minutes is 13kb/s. We are not living in dial up beep boop beep age anymore lol. BCH can scale on chain now, why the hell is the market obsessed with Lightning (vaporware/alpha/prone to Sybil attacks), Segwit (forced onto users/incentivises miners to be cartels and possibly raid your Segregated transactions)? weird..

TLDR: Bitcoin is a super virus that feeds off of its host then integrates with it. Any attempt to cure said virus makes it stronger. Understand it, buy it, secure it, Hodl.

Hello Bitcoin, longtime lurker, big bitcoin fan. I just wanted to put my 2 satoshis into the hat and give my opinion on what is happening with bitcoin. I saw a post on here about bitcoin being a virus and in some respects that person is absolutely correct. Bitcoin is consuming fiat currency at an apparently alarming rate to some. I personally do not see it as alarming at all, it is inevitable, and just the beginning. As the world we live in literally collapses around our ears, Bitcoin is THE perfect vehicle to store all of our wealth. We can see from the type of countries that are actively trying to ban bitcoin that this is a world changing paradigm shift, it’s good vs evil, it’s that important. Bitcoin IS going to change the world. I believe it to have reached a critical tipping point, there is no going back. For the first time in history the banks and governments of this world have been completely taken by surprise. They are scrabbling to try and legislate, categorise, and understand bitcoin. This needs to be done and I am all for it, however it needs to be done right. From what I’ve read in the press, and watched on Bloomberg, I’m worried the powers that be have no concept of what bitcoin actually is, they try to compare it with this thing and that, and don’t really grasp that the world has never seen anything like this before.
There will be a redistribution of wealth like no other. Money will go from traditional investments and initially to people of some (questionable) intellect (as this is reddit I’d better point out that this is a joke), bitcoin is complicated and it does take some intelligence to understand, access, and secure. Wealth will also be distributed to some poorer nations of the world (I’m not going to explain this, if you’d like to know more there’s an amazing thing called the internet, you may have heard of it). One elegant aspect of bitcoin is it’s ease of movement around the globe, even without exchanges. Banks closing exchange accounts down, forks, any attack on bitcoin just makes it stronger.
The amount of money bitcoin is feeding off of is now starting to take away from alt investment options such as real estate, gold, traditional stocks, etc. The difference between bitcoin and these other investments is that bitcoin will eventually integrate, and be used by, all of these other markets. Bitcoin is not competition to these traditional markets in the long game, it will make these markets more efficient and stronger. (There may be a bloodbath before it does, but it will ultimately make them more streamlined and accessible to all)
People are worried that the recent ascendance in price (to the moon) has something to do with traders, governments, or whomever pumping the market with the exchange trading coming up. This will make bitcoin more accessible to the masses than ever before. Finally people will be able to invest without the fear of their bank account being closed, (I’m hearing about this more and more, the banks need to accept it’s happening, adapt, and integrate). In my humble opinion the recent gains have been due to mass adoption, bitcoin is finally in the consciousness of the masses (my Mum’s talking about it with her friends) it’s on the front pages of many worldwide newspapers daily, it’s on Bloomberg every half an hour, bitcoin has gone up by 100,000 subscribers in the last however long, exchanges are slowing due to usage, orders are backing up. I would be worried about a pump (ha) if none of this was going on, and it’s happening WORLDWIDE. That’s not to say a huge short isn’t possible, but unlikely in my opinion.
Only invest what you can afford to lose kids, but do invest. In my meaningless opinion, it will be the best decision anyone could ever make, it’s worth it just to experience the ride if you only put in what you can afford to lose. Also, do not invest unless you have done your homework and understand how to, buy, secure, and sell bitcoin. Try to find out about what your governments view on it is and the tax implications involved (Pay your taxes people). Once you understand all of this COMPREHENSIVELY, then invest what you can afford to live without (can’t stress this enough).
Should this post garner any interest please respect other people’s opinions. If we all felt the same we’d all be robots (beep boop).
Peace.

'$300m in cryptocurrency' accidentally lost forever due to bug | Technology

This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 70%. (I'm a bot)
More than $300m of cryptocurrency has been lost after a series of bugs in a popular digital wallet service led one curious developer to accidentally take control of and then lock up the funds, according to reports.
The lost money was in the form of Ether, the tradable currency that fuels the Ethereum distributed app platform, and was kept in digital multi-signature wallets built by a developer called Parity.
On Tuesday Parity revealed that, while fixing a bug that let hackers steal $32m out of few multi-signature wallets, it had inadvertently left a second flaw in its systems that allowed one user to become the sole owner of every single multi-signature wallet.
Effectively, a user accidentally stole hundreds of wallets simultaneously, and then set them on fire in a panic while trying to give them back.
The lost $300m follows the discovery of bug in July that led to the theft of $32m in ether from just three multisignature wallets.
"The Parity vulnerability was the result of an incorrectly coded smart contract used by the Parity wallet to store tokens on the Ethereum network," said Dominic Williams, founder of blockchain firm DFINITY. "The vulnerability made it possible for anyone to 'freeze' the tokens held by that smart contract, making them immovable. At this time, the only method we are aware of to 'unfreeze' tokens held by the vulnerable smart contract would be to create a new 'hard fork' Ethereum client that deploys a fix. This would require every full node on the Ethereum network to upgrade by the date of the hard fork to stay in sync, including all miners, wallets, exchanges, etc."

Former Secret Service Agent Sentenced In Scheme Related To Silk Road Investigation: Also ordered to forfeit approximately 1,500 bitcoin

This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 53%. (I'm a bot)
Shaun W. Bridges, 35, of Laurel, Md., was sentenced to 24 months in prison by U.S. District Judge Richard Seeborg in San Francisco following his earlier guilty plea to one count of money laundering.
Bridges had been a Special Agent with the U.S. Secret Service for approximately six years in the Baltimore Field Office.
Bridges' responsibilities included, among other things, conducting forensic computer investigations in an effort to locate, identify and prosecute targets of the Baltimore Task Force, including Ross Ulbricht, aka "Dread Pirate Roberts," who ran the Silk Road from the Northern District of California.
In 2015, Bridges was arrested and taken into custody on charges related to the theft of approximately 1,600 bitcoin from a digital wallet belonging to the U.S. government.
According to admissions made in connection with his guilty plea, Bridges admitted to using a private key to access a digital wallet belonging to the U.S. government, and subsequently transferring the bitcoin to other digital wallets at other bitcoin exchanges to which only he had access.
As part of his plea, Bridges agreed to turn over the stolen bitcoin to U.S. agents.
